A terror attack occurred yesterday in Barcelona in one of its most crowded streets, Las Ramblas. A minivan drove into the pedestrian zone, taking the lives of 13 people and harming other 80.

24 hours earlier, having walked on that exact street, I could not even think that it was about to become the point of such a tragic event. I don’t understand and will never understand what could motivate one to kill another person. I will never understand why one would think that taking somebody else’s life in one’s hands is acceptable. No religion encourages murder. Those who believe that they have the right to sacrifice other people for their own good cannot be justified.
